What Defensive Training Covers
Fielding Fundamentals
Players work on the basic movements that lead to cleaner, more dependable defense. Training focuses on proper fielding form, glove work, throwing mechanics, and building strong habits from the ground up.
Footwork & Reactions
Good defense starts with how a player moves before the ball is even fielded. Sessions focus on footwork, body control, reaction time, and helping players get into better positions more consistently.
Game Readiness
Defensive development is about more than drills alone. Training helps players become more prepared for game situations by building confidence, improving movement patterns, and sharpening their overall defensive awareness.

Defensive Development
Skills Areas
Instruction may include throwing mechanics, glove work, fielding form, footwork, and more advanced defensive movements. Sessions are designed to help players strengthen the specific parts of their defensive game that need the most attention.
Training Style
Defensive training is focused, practical, and built around repetition with purpose. The goal is to help players move more efficiently, understand what they are doing, and build habits that translate into better game performance.
Why Parents Care
Outcome-Focused Messaging
Strong defensive habits help players become more dependable, more confident, and more prepared when the ball is hit their way. For parents, that means instruction that supports real development, not just activity, and helps athletes build skills that carry into game situations.

What Families Are Saying
I first met Stephen four years ago when my then 6 year old son decided he wanted to take a hitting lesson. Stephen was incredibly patient, kind, and positive. He pointed out some mechanical flaws in my son's swing and gently corrected them. But he most importantly provided a ton of atta' boys and positive affirmations. It was a foundational moment in my son's baseball journey, and helped foster a love of baseball that he still carries today.
When I became the head coach of my son's select baseball team I knew exactly who I wanted to help train them. Stephen has been training my now 10U select baseball team for the last two years. He has trained them in both pitching and hitting. He still has the same positive infectious energy, and the boys on my team are always excited to train with him. His drills are always thoughtful, well explained, and effective. He puts a ton of thought into how to attack each individuals flaws and gives them unique drills to help them fix those flaws. I have been blown away by the growth of every one of my players.
I share both experiences to highlight that Stephen is an incredible coach for all levels of players. Whether you're new to the game, or someone with years of experience I would recommend training with Stephen.

My daughter Colleen started training with Stephen when she began Little League in 10u. Colleen wanted to hit, and we had heard that Stephen was very successful working with both baseball and softball players.
Colleen liked working with Stephen because he could tell her what she needed to do, and he could show her. Stephen has excelled at every level of baseball, and he both knows and can do what he is teaching. Colleen said, “Stephen can show you what hitting looks like if you work hard at it.”
Colleen said that she is a starting player on a state-winning high school fastpitch softball team because of the skills she has learned from working with Stephen. As a parent, I enjoy seeing how Stephen works with my daughter, and I have seen her confidence grow over the years they have worked together. Stephen builds a strong and healthy relationship with his students and has been a great influence on my daughter.
I have enthusiastically recommended Stephen to other parents looking for coaching in baseball and softball.
